This is a full day guided bike tour along quiet roads, cycle paths, the recently developed Grand Canal Greenway, and Arthur's Way.
The tour begins at Dublin's Heuston Station, from where there is a short train ride to the historic village of Sallins. Here, you'll pick up your bike and safety equipment. After a quick safety briefing and overview, you'll follow your guide along the recently opened Grand Canal Greenway, with views of the 18th century canal and the many barges and water based activities.
You will cycle at a pace that is comfortable for you, and there will be frequent stops to hear about local stories and historic locations along the way.
For your first main stop, choose to visit the Malt to Vault Exhibition in Ardclough Village, homestead of Arthur Guinness himself, where you can stop for refreshments or lunch Arth's Cafe or at a 19th century period house a short distance away.
From there, pedal along the towpath passing the barge dwellings moored along the canal, before reaching the historic town of Celbridge.
After cycling through this quaint Norman town, you will be led through the 18th Century Castletown House and Estate, where you can see the grand Palladian style house and ponder the aristocratic lifestyle of times past.
Returning towards the canal via a different route, you will enjoy a quiet, timeless country road dedicated to cycling!
Returning to Arthur's Way, you'll visit Oughterard Church and Graveyard, the resting place of Arthur and his family, before following safe and dedicated cycle paths through the historic village of Kill before returning to Sallins, and catching the train back to Dublin.
This is a full day tour jamb packed with history, fun and scenic views.
